Jill Gookin began her legal career in Denver, Colorado over 10 years ago where she practiced in the areas of criminal defense, personal injury, employment discrimination, civil rights, family law, and contracts.
She has been in private practice for the last eight years where she has specialized in criminal defense, personal injury, debt defense, employment discrimination, and dependency and neglect. She has had contracts with the State of Colorado to provide representation to indigent people in the area of criminal defense and defending parents in dependency and neglect cases.
Ms. Gookin also held a contract with the Office of Child Representative as a Guardian ad Litem and Child’s Legal Representative.
Through the variety of representation that she has done, Ms. Gookin has been involved with mediation several times. She developed a passion for mediation through this and early in 2018 began to move her practice in that direction. She admired the position of the mediator and began to pursue mediation with the intention of giving it a larger presence in her law firm.
Ms. Gookin completed the required 40-hour training to become a certified mediator in Colorado. She has been actively doing volunteer mediation in small claims court in Boulder and Larimer County. She also volunteers in Boulder County mediating Domestic Relations cases. Because of Ms. Gookin’s vast experience in different areas of law, she brings a lot of knowledge to mediation in order to assist parties to reach a resolution.
Ms. Gookin is currently a member of the Colorado Bar Association and part of their Alternate Dispute Resolution committee. She is also a current member of the Mediation Association of Colorado.
Mediation Focus Areas
Ms. Gookin has represented clients over the last decade in a number of different types of family law. She has represented parents in Dependency & Neglect cases and has been appointed as a Child Legal Representative. She is currently volunteering her time in Boulder County as a mediator for Domestic Relations cases.
Ms. Gookin has represented clients in personal injury matters and has participated in several mediations while doing so. She brings this experience and knowledge with her to her mediation practice.
Over the last decade, Ms. Gookin has represented several clients in debt defense matters and civil disputes. She has both defended those being sued and represented those that have brought civil actions. She is also a volunteer small claims mediator in Boulder and Larimer County.
Ms. Gookin has experience with employment matters in Federal Court. She has represented employees struggling with both discrimination and wrongful termination.
A huge part of restorative justice is the mediation between the offender and the victim. Ms. Gookin assists with this and helps facilitate closure for the victim and forgiveness for the offender.
Ms. Gookin is able to assist in community mediations such as with Home Owner's Associations and home owners.
